- Multimodal Browser Extension is a technology that enables Microsoft Internet Explorer to render multimodal applications written according to the W3C Acknowledged Submission, XHTML+Voice (X+V). This technology, which includes IBM''s automatic speech recognition and text-to-speech engines, allows testing of voice-enabled Web applications written in the X+V language.
The W3C has established a Multimodal Working Group to create a multimodal standard. IBM has submitted X+V to the W3C for consideration in addressing the requirements for a multimodal standard. X+V allows existing skills in VoiceXML development and Web development to be used to integrate multimodal technology into new or deployed Web applications.
